We have been traveling a lot the past month and I have been lax in my food blogging so this 4th of July weekend I am going to get back to it and catch up.
We have visited The Matador 2 times in the last few months and both times I have liked it. It is officially know as a tequila bar but I have yet to sample the tequila. I would call the food a gourmet Mexican. Not really tex-mex and certainly not the traditional Mexican food that I LOVE.
Their chips and salsa are excellent. The chips are always fresh and served piping hot and the salsa has a smoky chipotle taste to it. We always have to ask for more salsa before we are done with the chips. The first time we went we ordered the shrimp fajitas and chicken enchiladas. They were very tasty and the portions were huge. The second time we ordered the chicken nachos as an appetizer and split their hamburger for an entree. We were stuffed. I would recommend one or the other but not both. The nachos were enough to fill two people up by themselves. The hamburger was excellent. The bun was buttery and the patty was well seasoned. Their chipotle mayo really brought out the flavor of the meat. The fries were almost a shoe string fry and were very tasty themselves. I would go back for the hamburger by itself.
There is a full bar to meet all of you drink needs and more varieties of tequila than I knew existed if that is your liquor of choice.
Our bill averaged around $45 for the two of us on both occasions with dinner and one drink apiece.
The Matador receives a rating of a 2.
