Stonegate is a locals bar in the heart of South Tacoma. There are two levels, the bottom for hanging out and eating and the top for watching a live band and eating. The service leaves a bit to be desired so you may have to go to the bar to get your drinks or wave down one of the servers to get their attention. Drinks tend to take a while to get back to the table after you order, especially if you are upstairs and order at beer on tap, they have to go downstairs to get it. Don't be surprised if your first beer comes in a glass and the second in a plastic cup, they seem to always run low on the glasses here.
If you can get past the slow service and the drink changes, the food is very good. The pizzas are thin crusted but full of flavor, but order a couple if you are sharing. I tried the seafood fettuchini last time we visited and it was very well done, lots of seafood that were large enough to see with the naked eye, unlike some seafood pasta dishes that leave you wondering where the seafood is. All of there entrees come with a side of fries, salad or veggies. If you choose the salad you will not be disappointed, it is a good sized portion with plenty of fixings on top and their dressings are very flavorful.
The live entertainment has been consistently good the few times we have stuck around to watch. The last band was a bluesy band that was very entertaining. They were always coming out and engaging the crowd and sang Johnny Cash so good you could close your eyes and start to believe he was singing from the grave.
Even with the slow service that sometimes leaves you shaking your head, Stonegate gets a rating of 2.
