The Spar, is a locals bar and pub in Old Town, Ruston, Wa. It is situated on a hill just up from the waterfront. If you wander to the back of the building there is a nook with a few tables that have a beautiful view of the Sound. The food is fairly decent in price and tasty to boot. A table of 2 that orders two sandwiches and a beer can get out with a tab of around $25.00. The food is simple but well put together and satisfying without leaving you with that heavy feeling in your stomach. We tried the grilled chicken sandwich with tomato pesto and a salad, and the grilled ham and cheese with a cup of clam chowder. The chicken sandwich was a treat as the chicken was perfectly seasoned and juicy sometimes very hard to find. The ham and cheese was crispy and gooey just like grandma used to make. The chowder was a bit soupier than my taste but still very flavorful.
The service was very fast and friendly if not a bit confusing. In the few minutes that we were there we had three different servers taking care of us. The atmosphere is very pubish but clean with exposed brick walls and wood floors. They had a good selection of beers on tap and a full bar. There were also two coin operated pool tables if that is your game. Next door to the pub was The Spar coffee shop that we have yet to sample.
The Spar recieves a rating of a 3.
