Oh So Good, Bacon Wrapped Onions

The other night I was craving something amazingly tasty for dinner. For some reason bacon wrapped onions sounded amazing. My Grandpa Walt used to make them when I would stay with them during the summers as a kid. They were just as good as I remembered and we have had them 3 times this week! I used the small onions I dug up from the house we just moved out of a few weeks ago. They are small white onions but just the right size to make a tasty side for dinner.

Small white onion, wrapped in a half a slice of bacon. Secure bacon with toothpick. Sprinkle with fresh ground pepper and add a small dollop of butter on top of the onion.  (Works best if you carve out a small part of the top of the onion for the butter.)  Wrap in foil, leaving some openings for steam to escape.
Cook for 20-30 minutes on top rack of grill or until bacon is cooked and onion is soft. Larger onions can be used, just adjust time accordingly. I think a Walla Walla or a Vidalia onion would be amazing wrapped in bacon. But what doesn't taste great with bacon??
