Good Food Weekend

My boyfriend's parents are in town for the weekend and we have been fortunate to go to two very good restaurants.

The first being Wild Ginger in Seattle. The food was amazing. I don't like curry but their's was very good. Very mild. The prawns I ordered were to die for. Everything we ate was amazing, you just wanted to keep eating! Everything is served family style so that is fun too. You can order small or large portions. They recommended the large portions for our party of 4. We had plenty, though we could have eaten more, though we didn't need to! We ordered the Sichuan Green Beans: Wok fried in soy and chili, Panang Beef Curry: Slices of marinated flank steak, served in a Thai curry of cardamom, coconut milk, Thai basil and fresh pounded peanuts, Mandarin Chicken: Lightly breaded and wok fried in a sweet and sour sauce with chili, Princess Prawns: Large prawns lightly battered and wok fried in sweet and sour sauce with peanuts and chili, and Tuna Manada: Sashimi grade ahi tuna in a very spicy Indonesian candlenut sauce with hints of lemongrass and coconut milk. Yumm!! Everything tasted incredibly fresh. I would go there again in a heartbeat! The atmosphere was lively and chic. The service was impeccable. We even had the wine steward come to our table with recommendations.

The second place was The Barking Frog in Woodinville. In the heart of wine country. The thing I really enjoyed about this restaurant was that they served food that was sourced locally. For instance, their burger is from a ranch nearby. I am very big on eating local. They were serving the brunch menu when we were there so everyone had the choice of lunch or breakfast. I opted for the Mac and Cheese: Tillamook White Cheddar, topped with Brioche Bread Crumbs, bacon and truffle oil. Very rich and decadent, though a little on the soupy side. I prefer a thicker sauce for Mac and Cheese. My boyfriend went for the Huckleberry Pancakes: Northwest Huckleberries, Vermont Maple Syrup. Three huge pancakes and a small glass jar of heated syrup! I did not try them but everyone else at the table said they tasted like cake. Everything was presented beautifully and the service was fast and friendly. It was on the pricey side so it would not be somewhere we would go that often, but I would go there again for sure.
