I love summer. Last night I ate the first salad made with the lettuce from my garden. I grew my lettuce and spinach in pots this year. It has worked out really well. The have stayed relatively bug and slug free up off the ground. It is also really easy to harvest, not to mention a beautiful pot to have on the patio.
Slugs are the biggest pest I have been fighting this year. I have never experienced so many. They really seem to love it here in the Puyallup River Valley. Luckily I have found a great product called Deadline, slug and snail killer. It works like a charm, but if you have outdoor pets I would try the other product they recommend.
I was out checking on my plants, as I do everyday...and found a tiny chili pepper coming on! So exciting. I love watching food grow in the garden and I especially love cooking with fresh produce straight from garden to plate.
