Homemade Tortillas

I remember having homemade tortillas when I was kid. My Mom had fresh ground some corn or wheat, can't remember which, but whatever it was, they were the best tortillas I have ever eaten. I wanted to try my hand at making some. I found this recipe in Taste of Home magazine. The way it was printed in the magazine is different that the way it is on the web. (I just found this out when searching for the link) The magazine directions called for 1 cup water instead of 3/4 cup as printed on the web. It was a mess. It felt more like I was mixing something for paper mache than I was making a dough. It was a gloppy and sticky mess. Very frustrating. I had to add more flour and they came out chewy and stiff.

After reading the reviews on line and seeing similar stories to mine, I may have to give these another shot. I was just about to chuck this recipe in the recycle bin.

Do you have a favorite homemade tortilla recipe? I would love to try it. Please leave it in the comment section below if you would like to share.

  1. I don't have one but I remember my mom making excellent ones as well. We would roll them up with cheese and rice and they were delicious. I will ask her for her recipe and we can both give it a shot!
